For over 25 years, we have been reinventing home renovation by offering innovative solutions based on natural hydraulic lime and eco-materials. This expertise, forged through thousands of projects, now allows us to offer much more than just renovation: we create healthy, sustainable and high-performance living spaces that transform the daily lives of their occupants. Our technical mastery of these revisited ancestral skills guarantees true thermal comfort in all seasons, while offering comfort to residents and respecting the integrity of the building. Faced with today’s environmental challenges, we are continuing our commitment by constantly developing new solutions based on eco-materials that prioritise local resources, improve the thermal and acoustic comfort of buildings and further reduce our carbon footprint. This comprehensive approach makes each renovation project a concrete contribution to the housing of tomorrow.
As the year draws to a close, the Saint-Astier® eco-materials range is being upgraded with the winning combination of lime and hemp, familiar to many users: the two iconic and well-known binders in the range – BATICHANVRE® and BATICHANVRE ISOL® – have been upgraded to become BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS, with a composition enriched with Natural Hydraulic Lime, a particularly low carbon footprint and improved construction site uses.
New BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS:
BATICHANVRE® and BATICHANVRE ISOL® binders, two historic and iconic Saint-Astier® products, known and approved by market professionals, have
become ‘PLUS’ in their name but also in their promise. BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS have been enriched with lime
. This patented formula has been optimised to reduce the carbon footprint by 40%* compared to the previous products. The binders in these new formulas have a significantly reduced CO2 impact during manufacture compared to the main binders on the market.
They offer:
- superior technical performance
- with reduced setting time,
- lower water requirements,
- upgraded application on site,
- easier machine cleaning on site.

Formulated for making lime-hemp mortar and concrete, BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS can be used in a wide range of applications: walls, interior lining, infill for timber framing, insulating concrete for intermediate floors, or insulating concrete for under-roofing with ISOCANNA® hemp shives (a plant-based product made from hemp stalks) or any hemp shives certified as ‘Chanvre Bâtiment’ (building hemp). The BATICHANVRE® PLUS / ISOCANNA® and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS / ISOCANNA® combinations meet the technical requirements defined by professional standards and are officially approved by the CenC (Construire en Chanvre) association, guaranteeing their compliance with the most demanding standards in the sector.
Product advantages
Thermal and sound insulation • Excellent fire resistance • Water vapour permeable • Summer comfort thanks to high thermal inertia • Preserved air quality • Humidity regulation in the home • Patented formula No. EP2430679 • Lambda measured for both products by a COFRAC-accredited external laboratory
Lime and hemp :
Since the pioneering launch of BATICHANVRE® and ISOCANNA® in the 2000s, Chaux Saint-Astier® has continued to develop its range of eco-materials, culminating in the 2023 release of KALAMUA®, a ready-to-use finishing coat whose composition is suitable for use on hemp blocks and concrete and which is currently unique on the market. A cornerstone of the lime manufacturer’s current strategy, the combination of natural hydraulic lime and hemp achieves exceptional performance in terms of thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, and hygrometry.
Limecrete insulation allows permeability in walls, thereby limiting the risk of condensation and mould, and ensures excellent humidity regulation for a healthier living environment. Its thermal inertia, with a significant phase shift, limits heat loss in winter and keeps buildings cool in summer. It ensures optimal comfort in all seasons while optimising the building’s energy performance.
Limecrete insulation also offers excellent acoustic performance with good noise absorption. Remarkably durable, with strength that is fire-resistant, rodent-resistant, and insect-resistant, and capable of capturing CO₂, the many advantages of this lime-hemp combination make it a bio-based material with a promising future.
With BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS, Chaux Saint-Astier® provides craftsmen committed to responsible and sustainable construction methods with long-lasting solutions that upgrade the performance of buildings while reducing their environmental impact. This development is just the beginning, and 2026 will be the year when eco-materials become even more widespread at Saint-Astier. So stay tuned!
